Economic growth slows

According to the latest
survey of the National Statistical Office, unemployment has reached 11 percent,
with 138,000 people without a regular job. Active job-seekers registered in
labor service centers number 39,200.

Of the 501,400 people who
paid for social insurance 204,000 were shown as government employees, even
though there are only about 140,000 government employees in Mongolia. An NSO
official explained that contract workers had also been taken into account.

The number of livestock lost
since January was 8.6 million in June but rose to 9.7 million in July, meaning
1.1 million livestock perished during one summer month.

Economic growth was five
percent in July, down 2.6 percent from the first season. This was mainly
because of a fall in production of some minerals. Oil production rose 3.3 times
in the first season, compared to the same period of last year. Last month, it
rose 1.8 times.

Total budget income and amount
of aid was MNT1,484 billion. The budget deficit was MNT1,613.4 billion at the end
of July.

Construction and
installation work altogether worth MNT84.8 billion was carried out nationwide.
Of this MNT 77.8 billion or 91.7 percent were executed by domestic entities, and
MNT 7.0 billion or 8.3 percent by foreign entities.

The railway transported 1,990,700
passengers and 8,926.8 tons of freight, showing an increase in both. As a
result revenue increased by MNT 34.6 billion or 27.9 per cent reaching MNT158.9
billion in the first 7 months of 2010.

Airlines transported 205,300
passengers and 834,500 tons of freight. The number of passengers was 44,400 or
27.6 percent more than that in the previous year. The volume of freight was 154,100
tons or 22.7 percent more. Revenue from air transport increased MNT10.0 billion
or 17.8 percent reaching MNT66.0 billion.
