Millennium Development Goals will not be reached in stipulated time

The 3rd national
report on realization of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) conclude that
despite steady progress, it will be difficult to achieve them by 2015.The
report was presented at a ceremony on Friday in the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs. It was attended by Ajay Chhibber, the UN Assistant Secretary-General,
Assistant Administrator and Director of the Regional Bureau for Asia and the
Pacific; G.Zandanshatar, Minister of
Foreign Affairs of Mongolia; Ch.Khashchuluun, head of the Committee of National
Development and Innovation Committee; and D.Tsogtbaatar, State Secretary of the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

A message from President
Ts. Elbegdorj was read out. Representatives of Bangladesh, Vietnam, Laos and
China then held a meeting to assess the reports and concluded that Mongolia
“reduced its poverty rate by only 1.4 per cent in the 14-year period and
this is not a satisfactory indicator”.

The report consists
of five parts. The first of these refers to the goalst, job execution, statistical
figures, government policies, challenges and solutions and other information. The
second part includes the millennium development challenges, long and mid-term
policy planning and financial connections, while the third part includes the
execution in regions, advertisements, and public participation. The fourth part
reveals Mongolia’s poverty picture and the fifth includes monitoring,
controlling and evaluating MDGs.
