Ajay Chhibber, UN Assistant
Secretary-General, and Director, Regional Bureau for Asia and the Pacific, will
is visiting Mongolia at the invitation of Foreign Minister G.Zandanshatar. He
arrived today and will leave on August 9.
His program includes a
meeting with the Foreign Minister to discuss Mongolia-UN relations, especially UN
developmental assistance to Mongolia from 2012 to 2016. He is also scheduled to
meet Parliament Speaker D.Demberel, Environment and Tourism Minister L.Gansukh,
and Head of the Cabinet Secretariat Ch.Khurelbaatar, to review implementation
of assistance programs and projects of the UNDP in Mongolia and future measures
to be co-implemented by Mongolia and the UN.
He will attend a meeting
where the third national report on progress towards realizing the Millennium
Development Goals (MDGs) is to be formally presented and also a seminar on MDG
implementation, reducing poverty, and ensuring gender equality.
He will spend two days in
Ovorkhangai to see how several projects are run, exchanging views with the
local Emergency Department and also meet with herdsmen.
Mr. Chhibber is from India and worked at the World Bank
for almost 25 years before joining the UN.
