The Government has accepted a proposal to export unprocessed animal hides and leather (especially from horses) for a period from 5th January to 5th February 2016. Deputy Prime Minister Ts.Oyunbaatar and Finance Minister B.Bolor have been requested to present details of implementation and the export results to the Government.
According to the statistics: exactly a year ago, Mongolia had 2,995,800 horses – this represented a 14.4% increase on the previous year. In 2011-2013, Mongolians consumed approximately 200,000 horses as food. 90% of the leather from these horses was re-cycled for export; this created an income for the herders. In 2014, leather from 222,800 horses was prepared; however, only 65,400 hides (29%) were exported.
