The
FIDE World Women’s Grand Prix began in Ikh Tenger Complex on Friday. IM
B.Munguntuul of Mongolian is among the world’s top 12 players participating.
She lost two of her first three games but the tournament still has a long way
to go.

On
the first day Munguntuul played GM Maia Chiburdanidze who is the only player in
history to have won nine Chess Olympiads. She won on Friday but admitted that
Munguntuul had had her cornered. “I was able to turn the tables. My opponent
was too focused on winning. Maybe that was her mistake,” Chiburdanidze said.
Munguntuul blamed her loss on her own mistakes and said she should have managed
a draw.

On
Saturday, Munguntuul defeated Chinese player Shen Yang, but then she lost to
Antoaneta Stefanova of Bulgaria on Sunday.
