The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will
cooperate with the Niigita prefecture on a three-year program to construct
sewage channels in Ulaanbaatar. A part of the program will be training
Mongolians in modern sewage technology. A recent meeting between Deputy Mayor
B.Baatarzorig and a team from the Japanese prefecture chose the ger district
where the project will be started.
Steady migration from the countryside to the capital city has put enormous
stress on its infrastructure, which exists only on a rudimentary scale in many
areas where the newcomers have settled.
