On 19th-23rd November, the mayor of Ulaanbaatar, Mr E.Bat-Uul visited North Korea at the invitation of the Chairman of the Pyongyang City People’s Committee, Cha Hui Rim. During the visit, the Mayor was introduced to construction and green area projects as well as a drinking water facility and a regional tourism development plan for Pyongyang. Both sides exchanged their opinions regarding future co-operation.
Mongolia has long had good relations with North Korea. In 1956, the Supreme Leader of North Korea Kim Il-sung visited Mongolia. Both sides have expressed their plan to co-operate in launching a new air route between Ulaanbaatar and Wonsan, which is being developed to become an eastern tourism region.
Also, during the visit, the Chairman of the North Korean Supreme People’s Assembly, Kim Yong-nam, had an official meeting with Mayor E.Bat-Uul. During the meeting, Mr.Kim Yong-nam noted: “Our traditional peaceful relationship and joint co-operation is essential for strenghtening peace in North East Asia”.
