Mongolian President Ts.Elbegdorj has held an official meeting with UN under-secretary-general for political affairs Jeffrey Feltman, who is currently visiting Mongolia for the celebrations of the 25th anniversary of the first democratic election. The President said: “The first democratic election was an historical event to transfer the whole political structure into democracy, and approve the Mongolian State Constitution. In 1990 Mongolia made a successful parallel economical and political transition. We allowed Mongolians to own property; as a result Mongolian live stock numbers rose have risen from 25 million to 70 million”.
UN under-secretary-general for political affairs Jeffrey Feltman said: “The Mongolian democratic experience has been noted internationally, not only in regional countries. Mongolia is a good example of democracy, and one of the active member states of the United Nations”. Also, Mr. Feltman conveyed UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon’s congratulations.
