Herders
from the countryside are settling near Uliastai bridge, Bayanzurkh and 22
Tovchoo areas in masses. Chingeltei, Khailaast and Shadivlan have turned into
livestock trading spots. More than 2,000 animals are in these places despite a
ban. The high demand for fresh meat in Ulaanbaatar has triggered the illegal sales.
The
Professional Monitoring Authority has asked herders to move back to permitted
areas so that no animal-borne infectious disease can spread among citizens. Herders
who defy the order will have their animals seized, irrespective of whether an animal
has a health certificate. No animal should be closer to Ulaanbaatar than
Nalaikh and Emeelt.
