The Presidential Administration and the Regular Justice Commission held a meeting on 10th June 2015 to discuss the updated draft version of the“Domestic Violence Law”. During the meeting, Human Rights and Legal Policy Consultant Ch.Unurbayar while introducing the draft law stated: “The Government approved the “Domestic Violence Law” in 2004. This law has served its purpose well, but it is not enough to solve all the problems that currently occur. Special aspects of the law are to be linked with the “Criminal Law”, “Law on Violence”, “Crime Prevention Law” and “Police Law”.
We have included three clauses regarding prevention and protection:
Firstly, Initial Prevention- To eradicate the causes of domestic violence through public education
Secondly, the early detection and preventative action phase of domestic violence – steps to prevent recurrence.
Thirdly, comprehensive action and support phase – to reintegrate victims of domestic violence back into normal life.
Also we have changed the punishment by adding home arrest, and imprisonment.
