Simon Wickham-Smith, a well-known translator of Mongolian literature, has received the Pen International Translation Award for translating the “End of the Black Era”, a book by the Mongolian poet and graphic artist Ts.Oidov.
Under Socialism, it was impossible for these avant-garde modernist poems of the 1970’s, to be published. But on this occasion, being published in America has made it possible made to advance the modernist poem in Mongolian literal history. This translation’s professionalism has been highly evaluated.
In 2008, Simon Wickham-Smith was awarded the same prize for his translation of “The battle for our land has begun” by the poet O.Dashbalbar.
