Future operational plans have been approved.

News.mn spoke to Chairman of the Archiving Agency of Mongolia for more information.

Could you tell us the main issues to be discussed at the meeting?

The Intergovernmental Commission of Russian and Mongolia was formed in 1992. This is the 21st meeting.

Since the start of cooperation between the two countries, we began to look at materials kept in the archives of Russia about Mongolia.

For instance, one of the important issues was regarding the repression of intellectuals in Mongolia. We have studied many materials regarding the repression and repressed people. The materials from Russia, which have been kept secret since 1953, have become declassified and open to the public.

Joint brochures have been published relaying information about the materials. The highlight is that these materials are quite newly rediscovered and haven’t been disseminated or published before.

Could you tell us whether or not it is possible for ordinary people to take copies of materials from the archive in Russia?

If ordinary people submit a request to the General Archiving Authority we can apply to the Archive Agency in Russia and obtain copies of materials.
