Prominent Canadian businessman and chairman of the uranium exploration company Khan Resources Inc., James Doak was found dead in his Ulaanbaatar hotel room yesterday. He was 59 years old.
No statement has been made by Khan Resources. The Canadian Embassy has verified that a Canadian citizen died in Mongolia but did not give official confirmation that it was James Doak. The embassy reports that it is staying in contact with local authorities to learn more information.
Khan Resources LLC, the Mongolian subsidiary of Khan Resources Inc., is working on the exploration of uranium in Dornod Province. Doak was in Ulaanbaatar for talks on a longstanding dispute with the Government of Mongolia on the 2009 cancellation of mining licenses. The case went to arbitration court and found in favor of Khan Resources.
