To promote Mongolian traditional music, the Morin Khuur Ikel Fund and the Morin Khuur Center have initiated the organization of an international competition for professional players of the morin khuur, also known as the horsehead fiddle.
The organization of the IV International Competition of Morin Khuur players will be held in July under the “Friendly Ulaanbaatar” program. The first and second competitions were organized in 2006 and 2007 under the auspices of the President of Mongolia, Ts.Elbegdorj. They were named after the famous state morin khuur player G.Jamyan. The third competition was announced as an international competition and successfully organized in 2010.
A gala concert by the top competitors will be held on July 14, 2015, during the Morin Khuur Festival, also being organized as part of “Friendly Ulaanbaatar”, where winners of the international competition will be announced.
