Judo Grand Prix 2014 kicked off in Qingdao, China, on Wednesday, November 19th.
The Qingdao tatami welcomed 115 male and 102 female judokas from 32 countries.
The Mongolian judo team headed to Qingdao with 11 male and 5 female judokas.
On day 1, the men's 60 and 66 kg and the women's 48, 52, and 57 kg events took place. G.Kherlen (men's 60 kg), D.Altansukh (men's 66 kg) and G.Otgontsetseg (women's 48 kg) made their way towards medal wins with impressive performances.
G.Otgontsetseg advanced as the quarterfinal winner, beating China's Shong Yao, and Taiwan's Kim Sol-mi, but lost to a Hungarian judoka. G.Otgontsetseg also competed against Julia Figueroa, but lost and ended up with the bronze medal.
G.Kherlen was defeated by Russia's Robert Mshvidobadze in the men's 60 kg event, and D.Altansukh in the men's 66 kg was defeated by Japan's Yuhei Rokugo and ended in fifth place.
The first day of competition ended with 14 countries represented on the medal podium. Russia leads the countries with 2 gold and 1 bronze, followed by Germany with 1 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze. Romania and France have each earned one gold medal, China has 1 bronze, and Japan has claimed 1 silver and 1 bronze medal. Mongolia is now ranked in 9th place with a bronze and two fifth place wins.
