An Overwhelmingly Large Telescope (OWL) for an astrophysics observatory was installed at the base of Tavan Tolgoi seismic station, 55 km from Ulaanbaatar.
The installation of the OWL was a collaboration between the Research Center for Astronomy and Geophysics, Academy of Sciences of Mongolia, and Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute.
Fully automatic, with a 45 cm diameter, and a Ritchie-Chretien optical system, the OWL was installed in an aperture pavilion can be partially or fully opened to the night sky.
The OWL will be used for the observation of small planets, comets around Earth's planet belt, objects in orbit, and the optic emissions of gamma-bursts.
Mongolian and South Korean scientists aim to collaborate on conduct study at the observatory and sharing information.
South Korea has 15 satellites for numerous use and will use the OWL for tracking their satellites, observing debris in space and speculating the risk of collision.
