President of Mongolia Ts.Elbegdorj and China's President Xi Jinping had a one-on-one meeting on August 21st.
At the beginning of the meeting at the State Ceremonial Ger Palace, President Ts.Elbegdorj expressed thanked the honored guest, China's President Xi Jinping, for making his first state visit to Mongolia, welcoming him and reminding him of his visit to Mongolia in 2008, when he was Vice President of China.
President Ts.Elbegdorj emphasized that the visit comes on the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and China.
The President noted the historic significance of the nations' move towards comprehensive strategic partnership during this visit by China's President to Mongolia, and added, “We have to strengthen our good neighbors' relations.”
During the meeting, President Ts.Elbegdorj proposed exclusively exporting agriculture products to China tax free, cooperating on a coal-gas project, increasing transit transport from Europe to Asia through Mongolia to up to 100 million tons by 2020, increasing the capacity of the Russia-Mongolia-China railway network, and gaining China's support for Mongolia's bid to join APEC.
China's President agreed to study the proposals and pledged his support for Mongolia's membership in APEC, inviting his counterpart, Ts.Elbegdorj, to the APEC Ministerial Meeting being held in China next month.
President Xi Jinping noted Mongolia's rich agricultural resources and the possibilities for processed and value added Mongolian beef and lamb to be exported for the Chinese market. The Chinese President also expressed readiness to cooperate in coal, building a coal plant in order to import energy from Mongolia. The President also expressed appreciation for the intensive development of infrastructure in Mongolia and interest in developing an agreement on Russia-Mongolia-China transit shipments. President Xi Jinping then noted opportunities for developing China-Mongolia-Europe transit.
