Speaker D.Demberel and the United
Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Representative Arjentina Matawel
held wide ranging talks on Friday.  Matawel
gave a brief summary of UNFPA’s plannned programs for 2007-2011 in Mongolia to
support the county’s development and also reviewed projects under implementation.
UNFPA supports the government in the use of population data for policies and
programs to reduce poverty and to ensure that every birth is safe and wanted.

Most
Mongolians are in their youth, and this demographical situation must be
properly used to help further the social and economic development of the
country. At the same time Mongolia must prepare itself for 40-50 years later
when all these people will be old. An adequate social insurance network has to
be put in place.

Matawel
suggested that a separate government organization be established to prepare
policy and oversee implementation. The Ministry of Social Welfare and Labor is
likely to find the work too much.

The
Speaker thanked UNFPA for its continuous support and assistance to Mongolia.
