Prime Minister N.Altankhuyag made an official visit to the Russian Federation between May 22nd and 25th. During the visit, Prime Minister N.Altankhuyag attended the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF). The Prime Minister also met with Russian President V.Putin.
This was the first time that Mongolia has been represented at the government level at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) thst has been annually organized since 1997 with the participation of state or government heads and companies from Russia and other countries. Prime Minister N.Altankhuyag attended the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum accompanied by delegates including the Minister of Economic Development N.Batbayar, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia D.Gankhuyag and the Chairman of the Petroleum Authority G.Ulziiburen.
After the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Russian President V.Putin received Prime Minister N.Altankhuyag on May 24th.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Russian President expressed pleasure at the acceptance of his invitation and for the Mongolian Prime Minister’s coming to the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. President V.Putin and Prime Minister N.Altankhuyag had talks over multiple issues including railway infrastructure and joint industries and they exchanged views on how to increase further bilateral relations.
Prime Minister N.Altankhuyag pointed out that Mongolia and Russia has had traditionally diplomatic relations for a very long time. He continued to say that bilateral relations with the Russian Federation is one of the priorities of Mongolia`s foreign policy.
Prime Minister N.Altankhuyag told President V.Putin that he had talked with the directors of the Mongolia-Russia railway joint venture company and exchanged views over issues and matters.
Prime Minister N.Altankhuyag re-affirmed to the Russian side that Mongolia`s President had invited Russian President V.Putin to the 75th anniversary of Khalkh Gol battle victory during the 4th Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) Summit in Shanghai, China.
Also at the meeting, Prime Minister N.Altankhuyag said that the Government of Mongolia is ready to negotiate on issues including improving the railway JVC efficiency, increasing railway shipments, and reciprocal visa-free travel.
Prime Minister N.Altankhuyag also met Russian Railways President V.Yakunin on May 23rd as part of his visit to Russia.
Prime Minister N.Altankhuyag and Russian Railways President V.Yakunin exchanged opinions how to increase Mongolia-Russia JVC Ulaanbaatar railway revenue, and mutually beneficial collaboration in this field. Both parties agreed to further bilateral collaboration.
During the meeting Mongolia`s petroleum importer “Magnai Trade” and “Shunkhlai” signed a 5 year cooperation agreement with the Russian Rosneft company.
