The General Assembly of the United Nations will discuss resolution 63/56: “Mongolia”s international security and nuclear-weapon-free status”, in order to issue a declaration relating to it during the autumn period.
Minister L.Bold presented a memorandum to the diplomats from the permanent members of the United Nations Security Council expressing Mongolia`s intent to add a specification to have Mongolia`s exclusive status approved in the declaration according to the idea of the declaration of the permanent members.
The Nuclear Weapons States (NWS) seemed reluctant to accept single-state nuclear-weapon-free zone (SS-NWFZ) as a concept, since they believed that this might set a precedent for other States to declare themselves as SS-NWFZ with all the additional international consequences. At the same time, the NWS recognized the legitimacy of Mongolia”s situation.
