The new airport is being built in Khushigt valley; located 54 km away from Ulaanbaatar City.
Over 700 workers under direct management of 80 engineers from Mongolia, Japan, Korea, USA, Britain and the Philippines are working on the construction of the new airport.
This year engineers have planned to build the air field dam, passenger services, the air traffic control tower, a power sub-station deck and a 3.6 km long, 60 m wide plane landing lane. In total over 30 constructions and facilities are been planned at the site.
The Director of the international airport project N.Enkhbat says “For the construction 2.8 million meter squared of soil has been removed at the site. That means we have completed 94 percent of this year´s planned work. The airport administration, maintenance, post and baggage service section will be built with support of the Government of Mongolia next year. Further, 17 out of the 54 planned highways will be built with the support of Ulaanbaatar City Investment. Now there are 1,171 days left before the new airport becomes operational.”
The Prime Minister said that he hopes the engineers will focus to complete the construction of the airport in the scheduled period.
Investment for the new airport comes from a 49.5 million yen loan from the Japanese Government.
