The engineers intend to bring the new technology of rubber wheeled trolleys. These forms of public transport are called Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) or a bus-based mass transit system. This high capacity, lower cost public transit solution can significantly improve urban transportation. This permanent, integrated system uses buses or specialized vehicles on roadways or dedicated lanes to quickly and efficiently transport passengers to their destinations, while offering the flexibility to meet transit demand. The trolley bus is fast-moving, low-noise and comfortable and has the capability to carry 300-450 passengers at once.
Engineers designed the plan of the 36 km long new trolley car lines between 7 Buudal to the new airport. According to the engineers the new trolley will be faster than trolley buses that currently run in public service as the new version has rubber wheels.
The new trolleys need no additional special roads to be build. Two facilities are enough on the current roads for the new trolley cars. Now the BRT project is projected to be added to the Ulaanbaatar City plan.
The BRT project is planned to be developed with a 212 million US dollar loan from the Asian Development Bank. The new trolley cars are expected to become operational on public transport routes by 2018.
