Mongolian peacekeepers that successfully completed the “Sustainable Freedom” operation in Afghanistan have been awarded with state and military honorary medals today. The award ceremony was held at the General Staff Office of the Mongolian Armed Forces.

The medals were awarded by the Chief of General Staff of the Mongolian Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Ts.Byambajav and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary from the USA to Mongolia, Piper Anne Wind Campbell.

Mongolia has vast experience of peacekeeping operations for over a decade.

The Mongolian contingent to Afghanistan includes top military officers, sergeant-majors and contracted servicemen selected from 25 military units and organizations of Mongolia”s Armed Forces. The have completed mission on security, helicopter technical support and engineering services, training and artillery training in Afghanistan, an area with high risk of conflict and war.

This time over 10 percent of the Mongolian contingent includes contracted servicemen and over 70 percent were experienced  in serving as peacekeepers in peacekeeping operations with a UN mandate in Sierra Leon, Chad and Iraq.
