
The President of Mongolia, Ts.Elbegdorj, attended the meeting in his first visit after his re-election to his second term as President of Mongolia.
Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) members are formed from six countries: Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan. SCO observers are India, Pakistan, Iran and Mongolia.
Mongolia gives high significance to its involvement in the SCO multilateral political and economic cooperation in the Central Asian region and would like to play a more active role at SCO and in determining priority directions for foreign policy. Mongolia has attended the leader level meetings of SCO as an observer since 2004.
President Elbegdorj met Chinese President Xi Jinping at the beginning of his official visit in Kyrgyzstan. During the meeting President Elbegdorj said that he believed the two countries will make the effort to strengthen economic and trade cooperation in mineral resources, energy, infrastructure and trade.
In return Chinese President Xi Jinping congratulated Elbegdorj for his second term in office and said that he was delighted that the Mongolian President could attend the meeting. He further stated that the meeting would bring a new level to bilateral cooperation between Mongolia and China.
The two counterparts exchanged views on bilateral strategies, economy, infrastructure and finance between Mongolia and China.
At the end of the meeting Chinese President Xi Jinping invited President Ts.Elbegdorj to visit China at any time in the future. President Ts.Elbegdorj also invited the President of China to make an official visit to Mongolia.
