
During an official visit by the President of Mongolia, Ts.Elbegdorj, to Japan in 2010, Japan and Mongolia agreed to bring bilateral relations to a new level of strategic development.
During his official visit in Mongolia last March Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe emphasized Japan’s interest in strengthening and expanding the mutual strategic partnership between the two countries. Both sides are now ready to sign a medium term strategic partnership program following conversations between Mongolia and Japan over the past years.
The medium term strategic partnership program is the beginning of the development of further mutually beneficial strategic partnerships on politics, economy and social areas.
The Minister of Economic Development of Mongolia stated that a mutually beneficial partnership will work with the combination of Japanese high technology, financial power and Mongolian mineral wealth and young workforce during a meeting with Japanese investors.
The medium term strategic partnership program is designed to be a combination of the above factors for strengthened development.
The Prime Minister of Mongolia, N.Altankhuyag stated that he believes the expected results from a strategic partnership program based on the cooperation of private and business sectors will be mutually beneficial.
The Director of the Northeast Asia Division of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan, Masashi Iwanaga said to journalists that Japanese investors want a stabilized legal environment in Mongolia to provide high technology and investment.
Prime Minister N.Altankhuyag stated that foreign direct investment flows into Mongolia have increased in the past years during his speech to members of the Liberal-Democratic Party of Japan (LDP). He added that the Parliament of Mongolia is to soon enact a law to improve the legal environment for foreign investment in Mongolia.
In the afternoon, Prime Minister N.Altankhuyag and accompanying officials also met Japanese private sector representatives about their support of new bond issues.
Today the Prime Minister is scheduled to be received by His Imperial Majesty the Emperor Akihito and to sign the medium term strategic partnership program.
