
Because of this the political parties of the Mongolian People`s Party (MPP), the Democratic Party (DP), the Civil Will Green Party (CWGP) and the Mongolian People`s Revolutionary Party (MPRP) held sessions separately at a run to promote their candidates last week.
As a result of the party nominations three candidates have been selected by MPP, DP and MPRP, including a female politician for the first time, to run for the Presidential Election in June.
Strong counterpart
MPP was the first party to promote its candidate from the other parties in P. Member of Parliament and former wrestling champion B.Bat-Erdene was tied with the head of the party, O.Enkhtuvshin, in the polls three times but won on the fourth poll, collecting 9 more votes during the party Assembly meeting.
This is the third time that MPP member B.Bat-Erdene has been elected in Parliament to represent Khentii aimag. MP B.Bat-Erdene is to run in the Presidential Election for the first time. He is seen as one of the strongest politicians to battle against illegal activities by mining companies.
There was high speculation that the head of the MPP, O.Enkhtuvshin, would run for the presidential election but she was defeated by MP B.Bat-Erdene in the polls amongst MPP supporters and members.
Presidential candidate B.Bat-Erdene`s appeal is: “Unity envoy who value justice”.
Advantaged candidate
The National Consultative meeting of DP promoted the name of the current President Ts.Elbegdorj as a candidate for the Presidential Election.
Ts.Elbegdorj has been seen as the Mongolian people`s unity envoy during his four years term as the head of Mongolia. He is the candidate with an advantage who has great experience serving in his political life, as Prime Minister twice and also a number of high ranking positions.
First female candidate
The first female politician who has been named for the Presidential Election is MPRP member, Minister of Health, N.Udval. The Executive Committee of MPRP and Assembly meeting discussed the presidential nominee for days and finally reached a decision to promote MP N.Udval as their candidate on Saturday May 11th.
The MPRP Assembly discussed whether to participate for the Presidential Election independently or to ally with one of the parties that has seats in Parliament. In conclusion MPRP resolved to nominate N.Udval from the party as members of the Assembly agreed to participate independently for the Election.
This is the second time N.Udval has been appointed as the Minister of Health. She is also in charge of the Secretary General position of MPRP.
Other parties including the Mongolian National Democratic Party (MNDP) and the Civil Will Green Party (CWGP) have announced their support for the DP candidate Ts.Elbegdorj for the upcoming election.
The final candidates running in the Mongolian Presidential Election Mongolia on June 26th are Ts.Elbegdorj with the support of DP, B.Bat-Erdene for MPP and N.Udval for MPRP.
