Although the demand was rejected by the Standing Committee, MPs who submitted the note demanding the Prime Minister`s resignation have said that the issue should be looked at again.
The opposition party claims that since the establishment of the new government eight months ago, the country”s economy had deteriorated, inflation had increased and foreign investment fallen. It also claimed cronyism was rampant among government officials.
MPP chairman Ulziisaikhan Enkhtuvshin said “the Prime Minister illegally appointed many top officials and dismissed many professional government workers and replaced them with Mongolian Democratic Party members and their relatives”. But the Standing Committee members except two MPP members of the committee said that the reasons behind the demand for the Prime Minister`s resignation are baseless.
MP J.Batzandan said that “the new Government has been formed for only eight months. The matter could be raised at least in 16 months. The Prime Minister has done both wrong and good. I believe that everything will not change just because of the resignation of the Prime Minister.”
MP D.Erdenebat said that “It`s easy to blame someone. But the thing is MPP raised the issue just before the up-coming Presidential election. This is an attempt to raise its party reputation that has once fallen. This is not the first time a Prime Minister has been asked to resign. Such demands occurred in 1996 and 2006.
But the resignation of the Prime Minister will not change current issues.”
