Monitoring revealed that prisoners at the Avdrant special regime prison, in Tuv Province are not paid for labor. Avdrant special regime prison is located near to a mining site so prisoners are employed there to mine the rocks. But the authorities of the prison did not pay a cent in wages until now.

The Government settled the minimum labor wage per hour at 800 MNT. All inmates jailed in prison are allowed to earn a wage for their work. The labor legislation regulates that an inmate is allowed to spend 10 percent of the fixed wage during their jail term. The prison is responsible for granting the wage to all prisoners who are employed.

No one should be held in slavery and forced labor in Mongolia.

It is estimated that there are 25 prisons and detention centers in Mongolia.
