Artists Patrick McNeil and Patrick Miller developed the Wolf Within statue. Both McNeil and Miller are members of Brooklyn”s FAILE group, an artist collective. Standing nearly 16.5 feet tall and located at the site of the National Garden Park in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia; the sculpture, which displays the intersection between man and beast, consists of fiberglass, steel, and granite.

This half-man-half-wolf piece came of talks as a series of paintings that created a strong visual exchange of ideas about the 2008 financial breakdown. According to the artists, “For Western audiences, Wolf Within was a vivid illustration that the bull-market couldn”t last forever, and a world out of balance can only sustain itself for so long.”

According to My Modern Met, four years later, the Wolf Within sculpture project became a team effort between FAILE, the Mongolian Arts Council, the National Garden Park, and the Tiger Translate program that works to merge Eastern and Western artists, hence this collaboration.

For five months, sculptor Batmunkh designed with FAILE to convert the paintings into this solid entity that corresponds to the tasks, which Mongolia encounters as they come face-to-face with quick development and modernization.
