Khuvsgul aimag community council and the “Keepers of Khuvsgul mother ocean” NGO have launched the “Khuvsgul dalai-Blue Union” movement and are conducting a survey to locate the sunken vehicles. According to a study there are 15 vehicles and one wrecked plane at the bottom of the lake.

The first phase of the project, locating vehicles, needs 100 million MNT.

MP L.Enkh-Amgalan delivered a request to the Minister of Environment and Green Development, S.Oyun, about the need of cleaning the lake.

As a result parliament passed a decree to spend some of the budget of the Ministry of Environment and Green Development on the restoration of the lake.

The project launchers stated that every Mongolian`s heart, domestic company`s participation and donation is vital to protect this lake that has a vulnerable eco-system, holds 65 percent of Mongolian fresh water and contains 0.2 percent of the world’s fresh water reserve. Ninety six rivers flow into the lake but only Egiin gol river flows out of it. It is believed that the lake is refreshed once only after 500 years.

In addition to the Khuvsgul lake, the Dark Blue Pearl project launchers are to carry out actions to register the lake with the UNESCO World Heritage Site in order to add to it’s protection.
