Yesterday was World Cancer day. The National Cancer Research Center celebrates this day under an appeal “What do you know about cancer ?”

The day is celebrated in order to prevent cancer, the second big  killer and to gain people`s attention about the dangers of cancer every year.

In 2007 136 out of 100,000 of the Mongolian population had cancer. But in 2011 it increased to 164.1 per 100,000.

The study shows that cases of cancer increase every year. But some officials say it is a result of the survey and knowledge becoming more wide-spread. According to a study by a professional institute, of the total cancer occurrences between 2007 and 2011, 38 percent were liver cancer, 15 percent were stomach cancer, 9 percent lung cancer and 8 percent esophagus and cervical cancer.

The increase of cancer occurrence and the death toll from cancer related complications is explained due to late diagnose and lack of acknowledge of the disease.

In Mongolia 4400 people are diagnosed with cancer every year. But 75 percent of them go to see a doctor during their III or IV stage of cancer which is too late for treatment.
