It is unclear what to do with the remaining vehicles. Radioactivity is highly focused on by Japan since the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster in 2011.
Until 2012 the General Customs Office imported cars from the areas with a high risk radioactive release inspected by the Nuclear Energy Authority. But since September 2012 the Nuclear Energy Authority and the State Specialized Inspection Agency have been responsible for the control of radioactive pollution from imported cars at Customs, Terminals and Border points.
Due to the regulation by the Nuclear Energy Agency and the State Professional Inspection Agency passed on the nuclear security status, radioactive cars are now banned from imports. Owners of these cars will cover the transport cost to return the vehicles.
