Neighboring the Russian Federation and Mongolia, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region of China has a population of 24.7 million, of whom 4.4 million are people of Mongolian nationality. The region was established in 1947. Literal culture of the national minority of the autonomous region is protected by the law. The population of Inner Mongolia uses both Mongolian and Chinese languages and scripts.

In the context of the Day of Culture of Hohhot City, the capital of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China, the third Mongolia-China media forum was held in Ulaanbaatar. At the event, representatives of media from two countries discussed the current state of the media industry in Mongolia and China and approved a three-year plan for further cooperation. Thereby, an opportunity opens up for the media of the two countries to boost bilateral relations. Unlike to previous meetings, the present third forum brought together larger number of participants, particularly, it was attended by over 100 representatives of above 50 media organizations of the two countries.

The forum was addressed by representatives of the TV channels, newspapers of Mongolia and China. For instance, a report on the theme “Development of cooperation between MONTSAME and Xinhua news agencies” was delivered by the Director General of the MONTSAME National News Agency of Mongolia S.Altantsetseg. The two news agencies established a cooperation agreement in 1956. In a last decade, the cooperation between MONTSAME and Xinhua has been enjoying more dynamic form in exchanging news services and journalists. Established in 1929 the “Way of worker” newspaper published in Chinese language was transferred to the MONTSAME agency in 1964. Since then, the newspaper has been published on the weekly basis by the agency with the name “Mengu siasibao” or “News of Mongolia”.
