Under Chinese rule, Ulaanbaatar was named Ikh Khuree. But in 1911, the Bogd Empire changed the city’s name to Niislel Khuree, as a show of independence. (The city got its current name in 1924.)
The exhibit at the National Museum includes rare historical artifacts, including archival documents, photographs, household items, and the decree officially renaming the city Niislel Khuree. It also includes religious items that were used by the temples of the city.
Museum researcher B.Erdenetsetseg told our correspondent that the oldest items in the exhibit are some personal effects of Zanabazar.
The exhibit runs through February 12.
