President Ts.Elbegdorj toured Dornogobi and Govisumber aimags and met with residents of several soums on February 4.

His first stop was Zamiin-Uud soum. Dornogobi aimag Governor P.Gankhuyag opened the meeting with a speech in which he noted that Zamiin-Uud and Sainshand are large soums in the aimag. He said the aimag has a total of 14 soums and a population of 60,000. He said the aimag has abundant mineral resources and the New Dornogobi project is being implemented to increase power supplies. The mining sector is growing, he said, and small- and medium sized businesses have created jobs.

The president then visited Sainshand soum, where an industrial complex will be built. He and his entourage inspected preparation work for the complex. A 400-km railway between Tavantolgoi and Sainshand is being built, and professional training centers are training students for jobs in the mining and industrial sectors.

Ts.Elbegdorj said production should be developed in the Gobi, where consumer needs will grow as mining develops. He emphasized that the state supports development in the Gobi region through enlarging the Oyutolgoi and Tavantolgoi mining projects.

Then the President traveled to Gobisumber aimag to study the aimag’s work and its winter situation. He also visited the aimag court. General Judge of the aimag court G.Lkhagvamaa said from 80 to 90 percent of all the court’s cases are decided within 30 days. She also said that the court cooperates with the NGO World Vision on children’s issues. A children’s room will be opened in the court in June.

After visiting the court, Ts.Elbegdorj met with Gobisumber residents and informed them about state plans, activities, and trends.  He said that he met with 21 aimag residents to hear their opinions and suggestions.
