A Mongolian consulate opened in Shanghai on December 23.

Taking part in the opening ceremony were D.Gankhuyag, director of the consular department in Mongolia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade; Ts.Sukhbaatar, the Mongolian ambassador to China; Sha Hailin, the deputy government secretary of Shanghai and chairman of the Shanghai Municipal Government; representatives of Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces; and representatives of foreign consulates in Shanghai.

D.Davaasuren, the Mongolian consul in Shanghai, opened the ceremony with a speech. He thanked China’s Foreign Ministry and Shanghai officials for supporting Mongolia’s efforts to open the consulate. He also promised to promote cooperation between Mongolia and China in the fields of economics, culture, education, and tourism, and to protect the interests of Mongolians living in the consular zone.

Sha Hailin pointed out that opening of the Mongolian consulate in Shanghai offers residents of the city a chance to learn more about Mongolia. Sha Hailin also said he hopes the consulate will become a bridge for ties between Mongolia and Shanghai.

D.Gankhuyag and D.Davaasuren also met with Mongolian students in Shanghai. More than 500 Mongolians are studying at 38 institutes and universities in Shanghai at present.
