MPP caucus discusses electoral districts

The MPP caucus at Parliament on Monday discussed a protocol to establish electoral districts. Members approved further discussion of the protocol.

The protocol would establish 48 directly-elected parliamentary seats in 26 electoral districts. Arkhangai aimag would have two seats, Bayan-Ulgii two, Bayankhongor two, Bulgan one, Gobi-Altai one, Dornogobi and Gobisumber one, Dornod two, Dundgobi one, Zavkhan two, Umnugobi one, Uvurkhangai two, Selenge two, Sukhbaatar one, Tuv two, Khovd two, Khentii two, Khuvsgul two, Uvs two, Darkhan-Uul two, and Orkhon two.

The Khan-Uul, Bagakhangai, and Baganuur districts in the capital would become one electoral district with two seats, Chingeltei district would have two seats, Bayangol district two, and Songinokhairkhan district three.

The remaining 28 seats would be determined by voting for political parties.

The caucus also discussed a draft law on mothers’ rewards that has been submitted by MPs headed by D.Ochirbat. The draft law instructs that mothers with three and more children receive a monthly grant. Mothers with three children would receive MNT 70,200; with four children MNT 105,000; with five children MNT 140,000; with six children MNT 175,500; with seven children MNT 210,600; and with eight or more children MNT 280,800. MPP caucus chairman B.Enkhtuvshin stated that the rewards could be granted in 2012 after the state budget is clarified.
