The president’s economic advisor, L.Dashdorj, opened the discussion with a speech. Director of National Center for Renewable Energy J.Osgonbaatar read a paper on the theme of “Solar Energy Usage in Mongolia.” Department Chief of the Energy Authority D.Chimiddorj spoke on “Feasibility of Building a Solar Energy Plant in Mongolia.” Executive Director of Mongolian Engineers’ Union B.Badral spoke about constructing a 100-megawatt solar power station in the western region. And National University of Mongolia Professor A.Amarbayar spoke about development trends in solar battery technology and new possibilities.
Participants said that solar energy is a renewable source of energy and is being used widely in other countries. Other types of renewable energy are water and wind, but water is in short supply in Mongolia and wind power can have a negative effect on soil and the environment. Solar energy is the most suitable for green economy and technology. Also, solar energy is appropriate for heating as well as supplying electricity. It could provide electricity and heating in aimags and soums and reduce pollution in the capital. But participants said foreign technologies are needed in Mongolia.
At the end of the discussion, participants made recommendations for exploiting solar energy for electricity and heating and decided to submit them to President Ts.Elbegdorj.
