
The latest investigation centers on the managing police officials who gave the order to open fire on demonstrators. Five people were killed by the gunfire. A sixth died in custody. The investigation was prompted by complaints from family members of the victims.
The head of the General Police Authority, Maj-Gen. Ch.Amarbold, the head of the Metropolitan Police Authority, Mr. O.Zorigt, the head of the Public Discipline Department, Mr. G.Ganbaatar, and the head of the Patrol Department, Mr. Sh.Batsukh, were investigated for abuse of power and causing damage. If a court finds them guilty, they face five to ten years’ imprisonment.
The managing officials were previously pardoned by the Criminal Law, but the new investigation supersedes the pardons.
