MPP caucus chairman U.Enkhtuvshin told our correspondent that the MPP and the DP caucuses have had differences over the issue of transferring candidates between the 48 parliamentary seats to be contested in electoral districts and the 28 at-large seats to be determined proportionally. That is why the two parties’ caucuses met to discuss the issue.
U.Enkhtuvshin said the DP caucus has decided to accept the MPP caucus’s suggestion that the transfer of candidates should have a threshold. He said that the number of each party’s candidates appearing on the ballot who will be directly elected will be increased from 25 to 30.
U.Enkhtuvshin added that the draft election law must still be discussed by working groups, the Standing Committee on State Structure, and Parliament. The MPP and DP caucuses agreed to a prompt discussion of the draft law.
