
Members asked the Representative Managing Council of the Development Bank to finance the project, taking into account the environmental impacts as provided by law.
The “New Railway” plans to build a 468-km railway from Tavantolgoi to Sainshand, 450 km from Sainshand to Khuut, 155 km from Khuut to Choibalsan, 380 km from Khuut to Numrug, 267 km from Tavantolgoi to Gashuunsukhait, and 46 km from Nariinsukhait to Shiveekhuren. According to estimates, each kilometer of new railway will cost between USD 2.5 and USD 2.8 million to build.
After completion, Mongolia will have the capacity to ship 66 million tons of coal by 2020.
