
In conjunction with the decree, an old script calligraphy exhibit named “Tengeriin Bichig” will open at the Fine Art Gallery at 11.30 a.m. on Wednesday.
Advisor of the President R.Bold and teachers from the Mongolian Language and Culture Institute of Mongolian National University held a press conference announcing the exhibit on Tuesday. R.Bold stated that the President has decreed that all official documents of the President, Speaker, Prime Minister, and Government issued to foreign counterparts should be written in old script and sent with a translation in one of the official UN languages. Besides, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science will grant all diplomas with old script attached. Also the Ministry of Justice and Internal Affairs will see that birth and marriage certificates will be written in Cyrillic and old scripts.
The exhibit will run until November 20. Ancient emperors’ letters, their seals, and some books in old script will be on display. Also to be displayed are emperors’ and kings’ family trees written in old script; a copy of a letter sent from Great King Guyu to Pope Innocent IV in 1246; a decree of Il Khan Abaga and his letter to Pope Nicolas; and a letter from Il Khan Gazan to Pope Boniface VIII in 1302.
