The DP recently held its final “Mongol Citizen 2020” forum in Umnugobi aimag.

DP Chairman and First Deputy Prime Minister N.Altankhuyag, Secretary General D.Erdenebat, MPs Ts.Bayarsaikhan and Ts.Sedvanchig, and managing officials of the aimag took part in the discussion.

Citizens of the aimag actively participated in the discussion focusing on five topics: Liberal, Healthy, Educated, and Employed Mongol Citizens and a Safe Environment.
Participants of the discussion noted that Umnugobi aimag has been developing due to the Oyutolgoi and Tavantolgoi mines since 2008. Officials said the aimag generated MNT 68 billion for the state budget in 2011, and the aimag paid for its own budget.
Also, small- and middle-sized production is developing according to the logistical needs of the Oyutolgoi and Tavantolgoi mines. Also, the aimag allocates an allowance to citizens from mining revenue.

Citizens noted that a 5.1 km road to ger districts has been built and lighting has been set up in ger districts.

Managing officials of the aimag have prepared a long-term plan to 2020, taking into account the suggestions of citizens. The plan focuses on overcoming challenges posed by rapid mining development, as well as developing the traditional livestock husbandry and tourism sectors.

The plan also calls for jobs for miners’ wives to be generated in Dalanzadgad city for the prevention of divorce, and a highway between Dalanzadgad and Tavantolgoi will be built. A sports complex with a swimming pool is being constructed, and affordable apartments are also being constructed in Dalanzadgad.

Citizens said electric shortages in the aimag are a problem of development because electric demand is increasing along with an increase in small- and middle-sized businesses and population. Aimag administrators have decided to expand a power plant in Dalanzadgad city with a sub-plant capacity 3 MW, and have invested USD 3.9 million. The sub-plant is under construction and residents of the city hope electric shortages will end this winter.
