The Head of the National New Party, Ts.Tsolmon, and its Secretary General, B.Tsogtgerel, told media yesterday that the 10th general meeting of the party on Monday had resolved to work for a stronger government. Only then can national interests be met. The party also thinks certain groups are monopolizing the national treasure instead of allowing it to be evenly destroyed among the people.
A stronger government can come, the NNP believes, only if the present State Constitution is abrogated. The party has prepared a draft new Constitution which provides for a State Lesser Khural. This body will monitor the work of Parliament. The President will head the Government and be in charge of administration. This way, the Government will be in charge of internal issues while the President will lead the government and represent the country abroad.
This constitution has a reference that national interests must be considered. Ts.Tsolmon hoped it will be approved after proper debate but was apprehensive that foreign and domestic oligarchs will stand against it.
Tsogtgerel said only two percent of the 2.7 million Mongolians share the fruits of national treasures while the rest of the citizens are poor. “They must unite if they are not to be swallowed by oligarchs, who will not go away on their own,” he said, adding, “There can be no fair election in the present situation. Today’s Parliament must be dismissed and a new Government established.”
In a statement calling for the support of the people, the party said, “Officials are corrupt and enjoy life abroad, while ordinary people are burdened with debts, short of food, clothing, firewood and housing. They also have to bear the burden of 76 MPs. People want to live like human beings. They want new policies, a new life, new laws, a new government and a new future. Let’s be the true owners of our land. The National New Party is calling on the people to stand up for a national revolution.”
