A four-year-old child has died because of bureaucracy in a hospital. The parents took him to the Sukhbaatar district hospital because it was near but the doctors there refused to see him as they were not residents of the district. They were told to go to the Bayanzurkh district hospital but the child died on the way in a taxi.
The cause of death is yet to be announced. The distraught parents blame the doctors and also say the child might have survived if he were in an ambulance.
M.Chimgee, director of Sukhbaatar district hospital, has expressed grief at the death but she also defended the doctors saying they are overworked and cannot take responsibility for those who live beyond their jurisdiction. The Sukhbaatar hospital now receives cases from the Chingeltei district also. It has 400 children as in-patients.
She advised citizens to get their residency transferred within 14 days of moving to a new district. This particular family was from Bayanzurkh district.
