Continuing her official visit to Mongolia on Thursday, German Chancellor Angela Merkel met with Mongolian military personnel who took part in peacekeeping operations under German command in northern Afghanistan. The meeting was originally planned for Sukhbaatar Square but was moved to the Government House due to inclement weather.

President and head of Armed Forces Ts.Elbegdorj, Defense Minister L.Bold, and Foreign Affairs Minister G.Zandanshatar also took part in the meeting.

Merkel thanked the personnel for taking part in peacekeeping operations. Afterwards she visited the German Embassy in Ulaanbaatar and met with representatives of civil organizations. Journalists were not permitted to attend the meeting.
