
The defense ministers of 49 countries that have sent troops to Afghanistan attended the meeting, as did NATO officials and representatives of the international forces in Afghanistan.
They discussed the achievements and ongoing challenges in transitioning duties to the Afghan army and police. NATO officials have introduced a plan to complete the transfer of duties to the Afghan side by 2014.
That same day, Mongolian delegates attended a meeting of defense ministers from 18 countries that sent troops to northern Afghanistan. US Defense Secretary Leon Panetta, Afghan Defense Minister Rahim Vardak, and International Military Commander John Allen took part in the meeting, which was chaired by German Defense Minister Tomas de Maiziere.
Minister L.Bold read a paper in the meeting and noted Germany role in the operation, praised the overall international effort, and said the Mongolian Armed Forces are proud to contribute to the effort.
