Speaker D.Demberel gave a speech at the opening of the autumn session of Parliament noting Mongolia’s achievements in agriculture. He said herders reported 13 million young animals last spring, the biggest number in the country’s history. He also noted that farmers will harvest 480 tons of wheat, enough to supply 100 percent of the domestic market. Flour production has doubled and flour imports have been cut in half.

D.Demberel said coal extraction increased in 2010 and 2011 and coal now accounts for 40 percent of total exports. He said the trade, service, transportation, and energy sectors are also developing.

He added that economic indicators have improved this year, and inflation has stayed in the single digits. According to the National Statistics Committee, the real income of Mongolians has doubled since 2007.
