At the United Nations 66th General Assembly on Wednesday, President Ts.Elbegdorj announced the formation of an international group of government leaders committed to educating citizens about democracy. The initiative is part of Mongolia’s role as chair of the Democratic Community organization from 2011 to 2013.

Finnish President Tarya Halonen, Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan, Luxemburg’s Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker, and Romanian President Traian Basescu have all joined the group, which is calling for an international effort to educate young people about the value and principles of democracy.

The group will work with the United Nations, UNESCO, and other international organizations in framework of Democratic Community. It says democracy education should become a priority worldwide.
