The Open Government Partnership (OGP) was officially launched in a ceremony at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York on September 20. The eight nations of the OGP Steering Committee signed a declaration of principles. The OGP in a new international initiative aimed at securing concrete commitments from governments to promote civic participation and transparency.

Its launching was considered one of the key events of the United Nations 66th General Assembly. President Ts.Elbegdorj took part in the event at the invitation of US President Obama. Mongolia can join the OGP by meeting certain criteria, such as increasing the availability of information about governmental activities, promoting civic participation, and increasing openness and transparency throughout the government.

Ts.Elbegdorj exchanged opinions with the world leaders, and stated that Mongolia promotes civic participation because it is a cornerstone of good governance. He also said Mongolia was committed to transparency and fighting corruption.
